The Abbey of St-Gilles, founded by Charlemagne during IXth Century, was one of the four major Christian pilgrimages, along with Jerusalem, Rome and the ways of St-James.
Partly destroyed during French Wars of Religion and the Revolution, it still stands as one of the main testimonies of Roman art in Languedoc, as it includes a superb untouched crypt, the splendid parvise of the Basilique and its 3 gates, and the "Vis de St-Gilles", a famous spiral staircase for stonemason journeymen, due to its extremely difficult build to perform.
The 1st Crusade of St-Louis started from St-Gilles which was once a great harbour on the river before Aigues-Mortes was founded.

Romans called le Versadou 'Versatoris' : the ploughed earth. The Petit-Rhone river wasn't flowing by the farmhouse yet.
The well of Versadou was first mentioned in 1209. It then belonged to the Abbey of Saint-Gilles and, due to its importance, Pope Clement VIth ordered himself its conservation.
Nowadays, around the well-preserved well, you may find the past home of the guard and some relics of sculpted stone founds in the land of Le Versadou. Among them, 2 docking blocks from the harbour of Aigues-Mortes in times of Philippe-le-Bel, and the fountain from the Renaissance, which is still in use.

The five independant accommodations have full modern comfort, combining design and tradition, in the original atmosphere of the various places in the farmhouse.
All accommodations have at their disposal any facility in the Domain, including the pool, the Roman baths, the park and all the lands of rice fields and pastures on 75 acres.

Every holiday home has all appliances: a kitchen with fridge, freezer, cooking stove, oven, microwave, dishwasher and wash-machine. They all have TVs, and WiFi is available in the Roman tavern, as well as satellite channels in the auditorium.

2 to 6 persons Living-room and American kitchen, 3 rooms (width of the beds : one of 140cm, 2 beds of 90cm paired , one of 120cm), a bathroom and a freshening room, 2 toilets, a wide private terrace opening to the park, with a garden salon and barbecue.
